Q: How long is the warranty on my handpiece or turbine cartridge?

A: The warranty on Midwest Quiet Air and Tradition handpieces and replacement turbine cartridges is six months from the date of purchase (or installation). The XGT Handpiece Warranty is 1 Year, and also 1 year on the factory-installed replacement turbine. The warranty on XGT field replacement turbines is 6 months.

Q: My handpiece/turbine has failed and is still under warranty - what should I do?

A: 1) Call Midwest at 1-800-800-7202 and we will pick up the handpiece and repair it for you within two business days at no charge. Or 2) You can return the failed turbine to the dealer you purchased it from for a Warranty replacement (or you can have the dealer send you a replacement turbine and replace it yourself in your office).

Q: What is the maintenance protocol for your high speeds?

A: Our recommendation is to use the Midwest Plus Handpiece Maintenance Products on all of your Midwest high speed handpieces. The Plus products are available in two versions: 1-The one-step aerosol cleaner and lubrication and 2 - The two-step Plus Cleaner and Plus Dropper lubricant. For Step-by-step instructions on either protocol see our section on Handpiece Maintenance.

Q: I need to send my handpiece in for repair. Can I have it converted to push button at the same time?

A: Yes. If it is a Tradition handpiece. We do not currently offer a push button option for Quiet-air. The cost is the same as a lever turbine repair.

Q: The fiber optic light from my handpiece is poor. Is there anything I can do to increase the light output? Can the fiber optics be repaired?

A: Yes. we recommend that you try pumicing the fiber optic ports on the head of the handpiece as well as at back-end of the handpiece with a non-abrasive cleaner (prophy paste or baking soda paste). If the light is still poor, the handpiece can be sent to the factory for "bundle replacement".

Q: How long should my power optic bulbs last?

A: The power optic bulbs are rated for 25 hours. This would be the approximate "average" life of a bulb.

Q: I'm having trouble getting burs in or out of my handpiece. What should I do?

A: You probably need to replace the chuck in your handpiece. If you have a Lever or Push Button style handpiece, you will need to replace the cartridge (turbine and chuck) as the chucks are not removable. If you have a wrenched style handpiece, you can order replacement chuck from your dealer.

Q: Can I use my new XGT handpiece on my current light source.

A: Yes, if you have a 5-hole port on your hose you need a 5-hole coupler. If you hose have a 6-pin port on your hose you need a 6-pin coupler. If you have a Midwest quick connect hose you need a 5 hole coupler and a extra quick connect adapter part number 380354 to connect your coupler to your hose.

Q: Can I use my XGT handpiece on a Midwest Air Station?

A: Yes, and we recommend that you order maintenance Coupler # 380090 to allow your XGT handpiece to operate on the high speed side of the Midwest air station.
