RDH Featured in 'Good Design® 1997' Exhibition
The Midwest RDH Hygienist Handpieces, the ergonomically-designed handpieces introduced by Midwest in 1996, have been selected by The Chicago Athenaeum, Museum of Architecture and Design and included in their "Good Design 1997 Exhibition." The exhibition, which showcased the latest international trends and direction in industrial design, ran from October 14, 1997 through January 25, 1998 at the Chicago Athenaeum, Chicago, Illinois.
The "Good Design" competition, the oldest design competition in the world, was founded in 1950 to encourage manufacturers and designers to improve their design standards and quality. Leonard Kliwinski, Deputy Curator of The Chicago Athenaeum, states that this "was truly an incomparable design showcase with over 30 countries represented this year."
The year's competition drew thousands of entries from around the world. A jury of design professionals met in July and selected 185 products to be included in the exhibition. The jury based their selection decisions on aesthetic criteria, product innovation, and function.
After the exhibition, the Midwest RDH and other products will be placed into the Museum's Permanent Design Collection.
